Award Spotlight: 2021 Silver Nozzle
The 2021 NPMA Silver Nozzle Award was presented to Swissport Fueling – Miami International Airport. For this spotlight, we’d like to the nomination for the award, submitted by Mr. Stan Livingston.
Organization & Location:
Swissport Fueling in MIA refuels over 14,000 flights a month. Swissport’s MIA operation has 156 fueling professionals providing refueling services to most of the airlines operating at MIA including American Airlines as the largest airline customer.
Swissport’s MIA operation had one of the highest on-time percentage in the Swissport system even though they were negatively impacted by the national labor shortage. The entire team of fueling professionals rallied together to make sure the airlines received fuel safely and on-time.
Accounting & Administration:
Swissport Fueling in MIA utilizes technology to help capture fueling data electronically. QT Technology provides fueling data to the refueling at planeside via a handheld device. Fueling data is transmitted back to the airline once the fueling is complete. GSE refueling also utilizes technology to capture fueling events and send data to the airline customers. Utilization of fuel data technology has improved fuel data accuracy and timely communication.
Operations & Maintenance:
It all starts with training. Swissport Fueling has a comprehensive classroom and on the job training program the fuelers must past before being allowed to refuel on their own. Swissport Fueling follows the ATA 103 specifications for operations and maintenance programs and frequent internal inspections ensure compliance.
Quality & Inspection:
Swissport Fueling has passed all of the airline and ATA audits with zero findings.
Safety & Environmental:
Swissport Fueling follows the ATA 103 specifications for Safety and Environmental and frequent internal and external inspections ensure compliance. Zero safety and environment issues in the MIA fueling operation for 2020/2021.
